Opposition guide: The lowdown on Man City

Manchester United take on Manchester City on Saturday in the Premier League, with the game kicking off at 17:30 GMT.

The hosts registered a 4-1 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday night, which means they head into this weekend's clash at the Etihad Stadium in third place in the table.

TEAM NEWS

Ilkay Gundogan is in line to return for Saturday’s clash. The German midfielder missed the midweek game against Burnley due to suspension after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season during City’s recent 2-2 draw with Newcastle United. Another who could be back for the derby is Oleksandr Zinchenko, after he resumed training earlier in the week. The defender has not played since the start of October but, after sitting out the trip to Turf Moor on Tuesday, may be available for Pep Guardiola. However, three men who will certainly be absent at the weekend are Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane.

FORM GUIDE

City may have won in Lancashire in midweek, but their form has been patchy recently, drawing at Newcastle on Saturday and losing to Liverpool prior to the November international break. They currently sit three points adrift of Leicester City in second, who are themselves eight points off the top of the table.

As for United, the win over Tottenham on Wednesday ended a run of three without a victory in all competitions. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will be keen to improve our record on the road in the Premier League, with the 3-1 success over Norwich City in October our only win away from Old Trafford so far.

OUR RECORD AT THE ETIHAD

We've played at the Etihad Stadium on 18 occasions since our rivals moved to their new home in 2003, winning eight, drawing two and losing eight. In recent years, we have a fairly strong record when travelling across the city, winning on two of our last four visits in the Premier League. The first of those saw Marcus Rashford score the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win in March 2016, while the second was our memorable come-from-behind victory last April, thanks to Paul Pogba's brace and a Chris Smalling tap-in.

Pep Guardiola is currently enjoying his fourth year in charge of Manchester City.
OPPOSITION MANAGER

Pep Guardiola is one of the most decorated coaches in football and has managed some of the world’s biggest sides. The 48-year-old first came up against United in the 2009 Champions League final, when he guided Barcelona to a 2-0 victory over the Reds. Two years later and Guardiola once again got the better of Sir Alex Ferguson’s United, this time when the final of the competition was staged at Wembley. In 2013, the former Barca midfielder swapped the Nou Camp for the Allianz Arena, and he won three successive league titles with Bayern Munich, knocking United out of the 2013/14 Champions League in the quarter-finals en route. Since moving to City in 2016, Pep has won the Premier League twice, the Emirates FA Cup once and the Carabao Cup on two occasions.
