Edinson Cavani celebrates his Carabao Cup goal against Everton with Axel Tuanzebe and Anthony Martial

Revealed: United's quarter-final Man of the Match

Manchester United left it late to secure victory over Everton at Goodison Park in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Edinson Cavani struck with two minutes left on the clock, before Anthony Martial scored on the break in injury time as the home side piled men forward in search of an equaliser.

It was, on the balance of play, a deserved victory for the Reds, who dominated possession throughout and could have been two or three goals to the good in the early stages, after a wave of pressure in the opening 25 minutes or so.

Dean Henderson and his defenders - Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire and Alex Telles - kept the club's third consecutive clean sheet in this season's competition, while Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba had the better of the midfield battle.

Edinson poses with the official Carabao Man of the Match award, but he also topped the poll in our Official App.

Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek also provided plenty of threat going forward on Merseyside, but there was only ever going to be one winner in our Man-of-the-Match poll.

Cavani's unerring finish, as he cut inside and buried the ball, was Gabriel Batistuta-esque, and the goal was a fitting finale as the Uruguayan caused the Toffees' backline problems throughout with his superior movement and link play.

It was United's 50th strike of the season in all competitions and you saw fit to declare the 33-year-old the winner of the fan vote in our Official App.

Our no.7 claimed 51 per cent, placing him well clear of Pogba and Martial, both of whom racked up 11 per cent.

That topped off a special night for Edinson, who also claimed the official Carabao accolade.

Well done Edi, and thanks to all who voted.
