Revealed: Reds' Man of the Match against West Ham

Sunday 14 March 2021 23:06

Luke Shaw was named Manchester United's Man of the Match for the second consecutive Premier League game, after helping the Reds beat West Ham United 1-0 on Sunday.

The in-form left-back, who was also declared United's star performer in the 2-0 win over Manchester City, picked up the largest share of the votes in our Official App following the victory against David Moyes' high-flying Hammers.

Shaw showed off both sides of his game, demonstrating a great understanding with Marcus Rashford when attacking on the left flank but also getting back to perform the routine aspects of his role as the visitors tried in vain to find an equaliser.

Although the Reds dominated the proceedings in terms of possession and chances created, the fact the only goal of the game came inadvertently from a West Ham centre-back (Craig Dawson) is reflected by our attackers not really featuring in the running for Man of the Match.

Shaw's nearest challenger was his captain and fellow defender Harry Maguire, who gleaned 21 per cent of the vote - 10 behind Luke.

Bruno Fernandes was ranked third in the poll after his inswinging corner from the left led to the breakthrough, but he was selected by only 17 per cent of Official App users while Mason Greenwood was perhaps unlucky to get no more than 13 per cent after a positive performance that really only lacked a goal to round it off.

Scott McTominay, who was the nearest Red to Dawson when he headed the ball past his own goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, finished fifth in the poll.

MAN OF THE MATCH - THE TOP FIVE

Luke Shaw - 31 per cent
Harry Maguire - 21 per cent
Bruno Fernandes - 17 per cent
Mason Greenwood - 13 per cent
Scott McTominay - 7 per cent

Congratulations, Luke, and thanks to everyone who voted.
