Man Utd line up in Milan.

Who won Man of the Match in Milan?

Thursday 18 March 2021 23:23

Substitute Paul Pogba was named Manchester United's Man of the Match against AC Milan, after the Frenchman scored the goal we needed to reach the last eight of the UEFA Europa League.

The midfielder had not played a second of first-team football since early February, when he picked up an injury during a Premier League game with Everton, but netted within three minutes of coming onto the pitch in Italy.

Pogba picked up the lion's share of the vote in our poll via the Official App, after providing the decisive moment which put the Reds up 2-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last week.

The Frenchman provided an instant injection of imagination and quality in midfield, and dominated the Rossoneri from both a technical and physical standpoint for much of the second half, while also defending stoutly in a less-familiar left-sided role.

See what the boss makes of Pogba’s goal, Henderson’s save, and United’s increasing momentum…

Although we defended well throughout the match at San Siro, nerves were growing the longer the game went on without an away goal.

With Marcus Rashford substituted at half-time, Pogba was sent on down the left flank, and within no time at all powered us into the lead with a clever dummy-and-shot from inside a congested penalty area.

That helped Paul nab 59 per cent of our vote, while the excellent rearguard effort was reflected in strong showings for Dean Henderson (10 per cent) and Victor Lindelof (10 per cent).
Luke Shaw came in fourth, with five per cent, after yet another solid display in what is becoming a standout season for the left-back, who was called up to the England squad earlier this week.

Virtually every member of the team garnered a few per cent of the vote in a very event contest behind Pogba, reflecting a great collective effort behind a fifth clean sheet in six games.

MAN OF THE MATCH - THE TOP FOUR

Paul Pogba - 59 per cent
Dean Henderson - 10 per cent
Victor Lindelof - 10 per cent
Luke Shaw - 5 per cent

Congratulations, Paul, and thanks to everyone who voted.
