Who was our Man of the Match?

Thursday 15 April 2021 22:51

Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani was once again named Man of the Match, as we reached the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday night.

The Uruguayan took the fans’ vote narrowly at the weekend, scoring the decisive goal in our win over Tottenham, and he was once again on target, this time at Old Trafford, as United extended our two-goal lead from Andalusia early on.

Our frontman volleyed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side ahead with an exquisite volley after only six minutes at Old Trafford, latching on to Paul Pogba’s back header.

It was his 50th goal in European competition, but his first on the continent in a red shirt.

Edinson Cavani's volley and a Jesus Vallejo own goal secured our spot in the semi-finals...

And that well-taken finish, which looked for a long time like being the only effort of the game, until Jesus Vallejo's late own goal, ensured Cavani walked away with your vote in our poll in our Official App, winning 38 per cent.

Tonight’s skipper Pogba was runner-up, despite only playing 45 minutes after receiving an early booking.

The Frenchman demonstrated his immense quality on the ball as well as finding the assist for Cavani for our opener.

David De Gea also scored highly, despite not having much to do for most of the night.

However, the 2010 and 2017 Europa League winner was on hand to save well from Nehuen Perez and Yangel Herrera late on.

MAN OF THE MATCH RESULTS

Cavani - 38 per cent
Pogba - 15 per cent
De Gea - 8 per cent
Fernandes - 7 per cent
Wan-Bissaka - 6 per cent

Congratulations again, Edi - and thanks to everyone for voting!
