Fans split between four Reds for Man of the Match

Manchester United fans were split between four players when asked to choose a Man of the Match from Saturday’s derby, but, in the end, Bruno Fernandes emerged victorious.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Reds and Pep Guardiola’s Blues met at Old Trafford in a 183rd competitive contest between the two clubs, with clear-cut chances at a premium in a tight and cagey contest.

Statistically, United registered more shots at goal (11-9) and City held the majority of possession (54 per cent), so the goalless draw was probably a fair result at the Theatre of Dreams.

Afterwards, an Official App poll asking supporters to name our star man received tens of thousands of votes and four Reds were in the running to win: Fernandes, Fred, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.

In recognition of his hard-working performance, and in a sign of his immense popularity, Bruno claimed the award with 21 per cent of the result, closely followed by club captain Maguire. Take a look at some key stats...

Fernandes registered four shots at goal and that was more than any player on the pitch, with City talisman Kevin De Bruyne second on that list on three. Bruno also created two chances for his team-mates to score in another industrious display.

Interestingly, the Portuguese also topped the Reds' chart for distance covered after clocking up 11.84 kilometres in total and that tally was beaten only by Blues man Rodrigo (11.97km).

In truth, this was a solid team performance and MUTV analyst Wes Brown pointed to the defence when choosing his star men, selecting full-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw for praise.

United skipper Maguire could easily have won the award, too, and almost claimed the prize by finishing second in the poll. Check out the outcome in more detail…
