Revealed: Our Man of the Match v Everton

Saturday 07 November 2020 16:49

It may not shock you to learn that Bruno Fernandes was voted Manchester United’s Man of the Match for the 3-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.

There were a number of eye-catching performances on Saturday afternoon, yet the Portuguese playmaker could hardly be overlooked following another inspirational display as a Red.

After United had fallen behind to Bernard’s goal, Bruno scored a vital equaliser by heading Luke Shaw’s cross past Jordan Pickford – earning a comparison to Paul Scholes from MUTV analyst Denis Irwin.

That impressive header was also the 100th goal of Fernandes’s professional career so far, after previously netting with Novara (four), Udinese (11), Sampdoria (five) and Sporting Lisbon (63).
Our no.18 scored our second goal against Everton in slightly fortuitous circumstances when his perfectly-guided cross found the back of the net, after narrowly missing the head of Marcus Rashford (who was initially credited with the goal).

According to Statman Dave, Liverpool star Mohammad Salah is the only Premier League player who has scored more goals than Bruno since his transfer to United back in January 2020 - which highlights his massive impact as a Red.

Fernandes then added an assist to his output by supplying the pass from which substitute Edinson Cavani scored his first goal for United, to cap an excellent 3-1 success.

Nine of the 14 United players who featured at Goodison Park received votes in a poll to name our Official App, but Bruno was the runaway winner with a massive 83 per cent of the result. As you can see below, combative midfield Fred and captain Harry Maguire finished in the top three…

83 per cent = Bruno Fernandes
6 per cent = Fred
3 per cent = Harry Maguire
2 per cent = Marcus Rashford
2 per cent = Edinson Cavani
1 per cent = David De Gea
1 per cent = Luke Shaw
1 per cent = Scott McTominay
1 per cent = Juan Mata

Thanks to everybody who voted and congratulations to Bruno!
