eFootball Pro: United v Celtic

Wednesday 05 February 2020 11:27

Manchester United entered the third round of fixtures of Konami's eFootball.Pro tournament, against Celtic, looking to build on our solid start to proceedings in Barcelona.

In the same way as the previous match days, we started off very strong. We had two great chances inside the first 20 minutes of the game, but luck wasn't on our side. In the 33rd minute, Celtic took the lead by heading the ball in from a corner, which meant we were trailing at half time.

In the second half we continued to press but could not create any clear chances. It seemed like Celtic would take the three points, but with just over 10 minutes to go they produced a poor clearance by heading the ball to Mata. He immediately produced a through ball to Martial, with a one touch flick to Rashford. He controlled the ball perfectly and waited for the keeper to make a move and shot the ball in the right-hand corner. 1-1!

Watch how our esports team fared against Celtic in the third round of fixtures at Konami's eFootball.Pro tournament...

Immediately after kick-off, Celtic tried to regain their lead, but on the counter-attack it was us that took the initiative, as we scored a great goal with Martial.

All we had to do was keep the ball and see the game out, however that was easier said than done, as Celtic had changed to a 3-4-3 formation and pressed us all over the pitch.

Eventually the pressure told, as we conceded an equaliser in stoppage time following a defensive error and because we failed to keep the ball. The match ended 2-2.

In the second game, Mellor opened the scoring in the eighth minute after the ball was headed back to him by Rashford. Shortly after, we conceded the equaliser which was, again, a defensive error from ourselves. Fortunately, our lead was restored 10 minutes later. A short free kick landed at the feet of Marcus who scored a very nice goal.

As half time closed in, Celtic got back on level terms with a well-worked goal. After the break, we created chances but just could not finish.

And a third error in defence in two games allowed the Hoops to score again. Despite us bombarding their goal with attacks for the rest of the match, they managed to hold on and win, taking four points out of six.

MATCHDAY FOUR PREVIEW

Because of results elsewhere we are still in fourth place and have everything in our own hands. Our next match is against Juventus who are currently above us in third. They have two points more than us, so it will be a tough game. Juventus are a strong, attacking opponent.

A good result against them will mean that we will strengthen our position in the top six.
