Ole on why Alexis missed Spurs trip

Sunday 13 January 2019 15:36

Manchester United’s caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that Alexis Sanchez was "not ready" to face Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley with the Chile international still working on his fitness.

Alexis came off the substitutes' bench in the second half to set Marcus Rashford's goal up in the 2-0 win over Newcastle at St James' Park. He then started the Emirates FA Cup match against Reading and assisted Romelu Lukaku's goal before he was replaced midway through the second half.

And Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer revealed to MUTV why United's no.7 was not in the squad for the trip to Wembley which saw United prevail with a 1-0 victory.

"He is not ready yet no. Hopefully I think he will be training when we get back, maybe Wednesday he will be full training. It is just one of those blows. He is just having a hard time getting rid of it [the injury] so hopefully next week maybe he can be involved."
