United to face Gunners in FA Cup fourth round

The tie will be played sometime between Friday 25 and Monday 28 January at the Emirates Stadium. The exact date and kick-off time will be confirmed in due course once broadcasters have decided which games will be selected for live television coverage in the UK.

The competition's most successful clubs last met in 2015, when former Red Danny Welbeck scored the winner for the Gunners at Old Trafford in a 2-1 triumph. Our last FA Cup clash away to the north Londoners came in 1988, when Brian McClair's late missed penalty at Highbury ensured United exited 2-1. Of course, one of the most famous matches in the tournament came in 1999, when we won the last-ever FA Cup semi-final replay 2-1 after extra time, with Ryan Giggs's wonder goal.

The match will be sandwiched in between the Reds’ Premier League games at home to Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley.

United reached the fourth round of the FA Cup for the fifth successive season after first-half goals from Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku saw off Championship side Reading 2-0 in Saturday’s third-round tie at Old Trafford.

Before the game against the Royals, caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expressed his desire to win the competition this season as the Reds look to go one better than last term, when we were narrowly beaten by Chelsea in the final at Wembley Stadium.

United beat League Two outfit Yeovil Town 4-0 at the fourth-round stage a year ago, as Alexis Sanchez made his eagerly awaited debut for the club at Huish Park. Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku scored on the night in Somerset.
