United's ins and outs during the transfer window
This guide has been keeping track of all the confirmed incomings and outgoings at Manchester United as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reshapes his squad.
SIGNINGS
Wales international Daniel James was the first player to join the Reds this summer, after a deal was finalised with Swansea City, subject to international clearance.
The 20-year-old winger signed a five-year contract, with the club having the option of extending this by another season.
James was followed into the Aon Training Complex by England Under-21 defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, when his transfer was completed on Saturday 29 June.
The acquisition from Crystal Palace signed the same length of contract as his fellow summer signing - five years with a possible sixth year in addition.
On 5 August, England defender Harry Maguire became our third arrival of the summer, after completing his transfer from Leicester City.
DEPARTURES
In terms of players leaving, 15 names were on the released list supplied to the Premier League in June.
These included first-teamers Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia, whose departures were confirmed before the season ended. Valencia has since returned to his native Ecuador, joining LDU Quito, while Herrera's move to French champions Paris Saint-Germain has been confirmed.
Matty Willock was the first man whose transfer was announced, by signing for Gillingham, with Regan Poole sealing a switch to MK Dons soon afterwards.
James Wilson penned a two-year deal with Aberdeen, where he spent last season on loan, on 3 July.
USA international Matthew Olosunde successfully concluded talks with Rotherham United over a two-year deal, and forward Josh Bohui sealed a switch to NAC Breda in the Netherlands.
Nishan Burkart, the young Swiss striker, moved to German club SC Freiburg, before midfielder Callum Whelan joined Premier League rivals Watford on a one-year deal, with the option to extend for a further year. Midfielder DJ Buffonge secured a transfer to Italy, signing for Spezia.
On the Premier League's transfer deadline day, 8 August, United completed the sale of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan.
Matteo Darmian's permanent departure to Parma was confirmed on Monday 2 September, just nine hours before the transfer window closed for Italian clubs.
Later in the day, 10 minutes before the midnight deadline in Scotland, we confirmed that our Academy defender Lee O'Connor had signed for Celtic.
LOANS
The first loan move away from United agreed during the close season was completed on 8 July, when Kieran O'Hara made a temporary switch to League One club Burton Albion.
He was followed by fellow goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who returned to Sheffield United on a season-long loan on 26 July after signing a new long-term contract with the Reds. Alex Fojticek made it a trio of stoppers departing on a temporary basis when linking up with Stalybridge Celtic, while Joel Pereira became the fourth when heading to Hearts. Ethan Hamilton also linked up with Southend United soon after.
Under-23s full-back George Tanner completed a season-long loan move to League Two club Morecambe on 12 August and, a day later, Aidan Barlow penned a loan deal until December with Tromso in Norway.
On 29 August, still inside the European transfer window, we announced that Alexis Sanchez would link up with Lukaku at Inter Milan, but on a season-long loan deal rather than a permanent transfer.
The following day, Friday 30 August, it was confirmed that Chris Smalling had also gone on loan to a side in Serie A, AS Roma in his case.
The final United player to embark on a loan spell during the Football League window was Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, who joined Tranmere Rovers for the remainder of 2019/20.
