Man United midfielder Fred.

Player of the Month: Fans spark a debate on Facebook

Friday 30 October 2020 08:00

A poll to name Manchester United’s Player of the Month for October was opened on Thursday and supporters appear to be split between two of the three nominees, Fred and Marcus Rashford.

The in-form Reds have so far earned significantly more votes than their fellow contender Bruno Fernandes (he can't win everything!), seemingly making it a two-horse race until the ballot closes on Saturday.

October’s Player of the Month poll is available only in the club’s Official App and, in a passionate discussion about the award on our Facebook page, fans are loving the two leading candidates…

Here's a selection of comments about our relentless midfielder...

Charles Nwaogu: “It's a tough competition. Rashford has been the game-winner but Fred has transformed into a vital asset to the team. I VOTE FOR THE BRAZILIAN!”

Karl West: “Fred has proven what a vital player he is in the central defensive midfielder role and he deserves it. Also, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been awesome too and deserved recognition.”

Jack Loh: “It’s Fred for me. In the month of October he was really excellent and exceptionally hard-working in the five games he played in, winning three and drawing one. Keep going!”

Drizzy Tyres: “Fred is an unsung hero at United and is very underrated. He is the best! Ever since he started playing the team has found balance and stability.”

Demba Bbdevore: "This boy Fred covers every inch of grass on the pitch tirelessly. He plays with his heart out and has a passion for winning. With him in midfield we are safe. Fred it is!”

Steven Chen: “Fans can see Fred’s improvement. He is so much better than before and especially in this month. And his work-rate on the field is higher too. He influenced our games way more than before. I think he deserves it. He's not the best player in the team but he worked hard in this month. So we should give him some rewards for his action as a motivation for him.”

Bandile Macwele: “I'm always partial to Bruno. His ambition and hate-to-lose attitude is second to none. He has been amazing again this month, even when the chips were down, but I would give this one to Fred. The guy plays his heart out for the team and the team has benefited from him a lot.”

Einreb Snikwah: “United are a much better team when Fred is in the midfield. He may not have such a high profile as some of the other players, but he always gives 100 per cent for the team.”

Here's what fans are saying about the homegrown hero...

Evance Odero: “Fred has been outstanding and Bruno's impact is unquestionable, but Rashford's consistency and hard work is unmatched. Rashford deserves the award.”

Ibni Ayop: “It's hard to choose from these three heroes but I think Rashford deserves it. He does well on and off the field for United.”

Clinton Telles: “Fred has been brilliant once again. He is the guy some people used to call a flop, and his commitment and work ethic has been immense. But I would give the award to Rashford because he has been clinical and fantastic.”

Craig Earl Boggenpoel: “It is Doctor Marcus Rashford for sure! The fastest hat-trick as a sub in Champions League history makes it a one-horse race! Well done on a stellar performance.”

Glenn Meno: “Rashford. He stood out the most against Chelsea and had it not been for Chelsea's new goalkeeper making some amazing saves, he would've scored in that game. Easy choice for me!”

Muhammas Bashir Sharif: “It's hard to choose one because all these three players were outstanding this month. Fred was tireless in the midfield, especially in the games against PSG and Leipzig. Bruno was magnificent as always, creating chances and scoring some of our goals. And Marcus looked sharp and was clinical in front of goal. Overall, I choose Marcus!”
