Trending now: Fans go wild for Bailly's performance
Eric Bailly is the toast of Manchester United fans around the world, following his commanding performance in the 2-1 Premier League victory over Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.
Bailly’s outstanding moment was undoubtedly the goal-saving challenge to deny Keinan Davis in the final minute - which you can watch below - and he was deservedly mobbed by his team-mates after the final whistle.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also embraced Eric as they left the pitch and the boss later heaped praise on him, by saying: “He’s had such a difficult time with injuries. He’s such a likable man. In that dressing room, everyone wants to see him succeed. We know how important he can be for us and tonight he was immense.”
As you might imagine, Bailly has been trending on social media since Friday night’s win over Villa and his name is all over the comments sections of our official Facebook page, where fans are paying tribute...
Bailly's matchsaving block against Villa
Eric Bailly's team-mates rightly surrounded him at the final whistle, after this last-ditch piece of defending...
Jerry Ferguson: “Good game by Bailly. He adds a lot to the defence. Hopefully he can stay fit and get a good run of games.”
Alan Kiong: “That kind of defending, charging down the shot and throwing your body on the line, is a hallmark of a Man United defender through the years.”
Leon Castello: “Great performance from Bailly. Feel like a scratched record, but if we can keep him fit it will be a massive boost for the second half of the season.”
Mark Glover: “He’s a quality centre-back. Fast, tough and defends like his life depends upon it. If he keeps fit he's in the first 11 every week.”
Liam Keely: “When fit, he is a class centre-half. Need to keep him fit as he is the defender we need.”
Liam Comerford: “Whilst he is 100 per cent, Bailly should start every game so he can prove that he is valuable to Man United's squad.”
Damien Cahill: “It’s great to see Bailly playing well, considering all the injuries he's had and I’m glad Ole stuck with him. He’s a top athlete, I always liked him and now I know why - top defender!”
Pe Khai Teng: “Bailly has come on leaps and bounds. Our boys mobbing him at the end of the game showed how vital he was, and particularly at the end. Well done!”
