United's away support: What the players think

Sunday 16 August 2020 07:00

Manchester United first-team players have expressed their love and appreciation of our away supporters.

With supporters unable to attend games at present, our following on the road has perhaps never been more treasured, and our new second strip for 2020/21 is inspired by the incredible travelling fans who follow United across England and around Europe.

The kit, which is available to buy now from United Direct and adidas stores, is being promoted with imagery based on away fans’ journeys and the transport methods they use, as well as the feeling of camaraderie that exists among them.

Ahead of wearing the kit for the first time in this Sunday night's UEFA Europa League semi-final against Sevilla, several players gave their thoughts on our unrivalled away following and the new strip…

Juan Mata: “We are incredibly lucky to have the supportive fans that we have. The fans that travel with us and come to our away games are incredible. There’s always one big stand behind the goal supporting us wherever we go. When we go away, we also feel like we are playing at home because they are usually louder than the home fans.”

Scott McTominay: “In every single away game, the support remains the same. They stick by you through every minute and it’s a rollercoaster of a journey for everyone involved. The players talk about it all the time; they cannot wait for away games where they give you a big boost. The new away kit is beautiful; I love it.”

Paul Pogba: “The kit its cool, right? This one is for the fans. They give us that boost. They give us that extra [push]. We want to give them this love back on the pitch.”

Daniel James: “For my first experience of a Manchester derby, the fans were unbelievable that day. To win and go over to them at the end felt really special. The pattern on the new kit is quite subtle, but it stands out as well. It would go with anything.”

The new Manchester United away kit is available to buy today, exclusively at, adidas stores and United Direct.
