Henderson and Mengi's shirt numbers confirmed

Two of Manchester United's homegrown talents have been assigned new numbers for the start of the Premier League season.

The back page of United Review, our official matchday programme, features the names Dean Henderson and Teden Mengi as they are among the options open to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, ahead of the visit of Crystal Palace to Old Trafford.

The 17:30 BST kick-off on Saturday belatedly gets the Reds' 2020/21 campaign under way.

Dean Henderson has been allocated the no.26 jersey, which was vacated by Mason Greenwood, when he switched to no.11

Chris Casper, Gabriel Obertan and Shinji Kagawa are among those to have worn it in the past.

Defender Teden Mengi has been handed the no.43 shirt, after moving from no.71.

The former youth-team skipper, who made his senior debut last term against LASK at Old Trafford, wore it in the EFL Trophy victory over Salford City recently, when all of Neil Wood's group were handed squad numbers.

Brandon Williams is now no.33, while summer signing Donny van de Beek opted for no.34.

To see whether Henderson or Mengi feature against Palace, make sure to check Manutd.com, or our Official App from around 16:30 BST, when the teams will be announced.

The Reds will be hoping to start the season with a win, as we did in 2019/20, when we beat Chelsea 4-0 on the opening weekend.

Ole’s men will also be aiming to exact some revenge on the Eagles, following the Londoners 2-1 win over United last term.

The new season is here! Our 2020/21 home, away and third kits are available now from United Direct.
