Ronaldo wins United's March Goal of the Month award
Cristiano Ronaldo’s first goal against Tottenham Hotspur has been voted as Manchester United’s Goal of the Month for March.
The strike, the first of Ronaldo’s match-winning hat-trick against Spurs at Old Trafford last month, has been confirmed as our poll-topper with a majority 53 per cent of the vote.
On Friday, the goal was also announced as the winner of the Premier League’s official prize, while it is a clean sweep of March’s United awards for Ronaldo, who has already claimed Player of the Month accolade.
Having picked up the ball in a deep central area following a neat flick by Fred, Ronaldo took one touch to control and one to set the ball out of his feet, before producing a rasping rocket from around 25 yards out that was powered past Hugo Lloris in the visiting goal.
Cristiano’s iconic ‘Siuuu’ celebration followed, and the effort would turn out to just be the start of an epic evening for United and Ronaldo, who went on to net only his second-ever hat-trick for the club, and first since 2008, on the way to a vital victory.
It means that our no.7 has now received the prize in back-to-back months, having been named as February’s winner for his effort against Brighton, while it’s the third time he’s won it this season after his volley away to Tottenham topped October’s poll.
Congratulations to Cristiano and thank you to everyone who voted.
