Hannibal: I have to enjoy the moment

Saturday 11 February 2023 11:30

Manchester United midfielder Hannibal expressed his delight after netting his first senior goal while playing for loan side Birmingham City on Friday evening.

The Blues ran out 2-0 winners over local rivals West Brom at St Andrew's, and Hannibal opened the scoring with a cheeky free-kick, catching Albion keeper David Button out as his superbly taken effort curled into the net.

The 20-year-old, on a season-long loan at the Championship club, then turned provider with seven minutes gone in the second half, as his inswinging corner delivery was cleverly met by Polish midfielder Krystian Bielik, who nodded home to double the lead.

Praising a superb atmosphere on a night to remember for himself the West Midlands, Hannibal's delight was clear, as he spoke to Sky Sports post-match.

''It was a great game first, a great derby and I [also] had the chance to score,'' he said, prior to picking up the Man-of-the-Match trophy from the broadcaster.

''I am very happy, the atmosphere was really nice and I have to enjoy the moment.''

With over 17,000 in attendance yesterday evening, the Tunisia international praised the support shown for both himself and his team-mates, as the Blues recorded their first home victory of 2023.

''You cannot ask for more, it was absolutely great and the atmosphere was crazy,'' Hannibal told Birmingham's official club channel, Blues TV, following the win.

''Thanks for the fans as I think they needed this win, we needed it a little bit more as we all know what happened two games before. We need to keep going like this and to do our best.''

What is Hannibal's main focus?

The Birmingham City loanee says he has his mind set on one thing in 2023.

Turning out 27 times for the Blues so far this season, the 20-year-old is continuing to make an impression during his first loan spell away from Old Trafford.

Birmingham return to action on Tuesday evening in the Championship, as they are set to take on Cardiff City at St Andrew's (KO 19:45 GMT), and our young midfielder could be involved once more in that match.

Congratulations to Hannibal on his first senior goal!
