Reds name Community Captain to mark Premier League's 30th anniversary

Yasmeen Ali, of Old Trafford, has been named as Manchester United’s Community Captain in recognition of her incredible work in the local area through her involvement in Primary Reds and Premier League Primary Stars programmes. 

The Community Captain accolade is being given to more than 100 members of the public who have made an outstanding contribution to their club and local community, as part of the Premier League’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

Presentations to the Captains form part of the Premier League Trophy Tour, which sees the Premier League visit more than 50 professional, non-league and women’s clubs across England and Wales who receive funding from the organisation.

Manchester United legend Wes Brown, who presented Yasmeen’s Community Captain award, said: “A good captain leads by example and I think it's clear to see Yasmeen embodies that spirit and is an inspirational figure in the local community.

''Yasmeen’s achievements deserve to be recognised – many congratulations to her. Yasmeen has been has involved in the Foundation for many years and I've seen first-hand how important this work is to young people and the community.”

John Shiels MBE, Chief Executive of Manchester United Foundation, added: “Yasmeen is someone we’re extremely proud of and her dedication to the club is fantastic example of being a Community Captain.

Yasmeen truly deserves to be called Manchester United’s Community cCaptain, she has been involved in Manchester United Foundation since primary school, where her school ran Primary Stars programmes through the Foundation. 

“Since high school, Yasmeen enrolled on Manchester United Foundation’s programme at Eccles Sixth Form College where her passion for coaching progressed further and she recorded 166 volunteer hours on a range of programmes, including PL Primary Stars, Street Reds (Kicks) and partner high schools.

''She has since progressed to being a full-time primary schools officer for the Foundation and is a real asset to the team, the wider Foundation and the schools and young people she works with and inspires every day.”

Manchester United Foundation’s Primary Reds programme is supported by funding from the Premier League, and aims to develop and improve the wellbeing and life skills of children aged 5-11.

Premier League Primary Stars helps children learn, through the power of football in more than 18,500 primary schools across England and Wales.

There have been over 17 million attendances by primary school pupils at club-led sessions since 2017, with 105 professional football clubs across the pyramid delivering sessions.

Premier League investment supports the community organisations of all 92 Premier League and EFL clubs, plus the 68 National League clubs.
