United name side for Manchester derby

Saturday 12 December 2020 16:30

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named his side to take on City in the derby at Old Trafford.

The Reds go into the game needing to bounce back after the Champions League exit in midweek, and looking to extend a one-point lead over our neighbours in the Premier League table.

Although no fans are present again, hopefully for the last time at our home ground if the Government tier restrictions are eased in the area before next weekend's clash with Leeds United, the match should still retain the passion and intensity of a derby.

The manager has made two changes to those who started the match at RB Leipzig, with Fred and Paul Pogba coming in for Alex Telles and Nemanja Matic.

Anthony Martial is only fit enough to make the bench and there is no Edinson Cavani again.

It looks likely the Reds will revert to a back-four with Luke Shaw resuming his usual role on the left-hand side.

City are without Sergio Aguero, who is not in the squad despite returning from injury to score against Marseille in the Champions League.

"They’re good enough without us starting slowly," Ole told Sky Sports beforehand. "We’ve got to start quickly and get at them quickly, get on the front foot and make them defend.

“It [starting slowly] is not something we intend to do. We don’t have the intention of going slow and giving the opposition a one or two-goal lead, of course that’s the way it’s fallen a couple of times, but we’ve got to be concentrated for 95, maybe 99 minutes today.

“You look at every possibility and we know we’ve got to defend. We know we’ve got to stamp our authority on the ball as well but the personnel we decided on today, we hope we get what we want."
