United's App scoops industry awards
Manchester United's Official App has netted a hat-trick of business and marketing accolades after a phenomenally successful first year of engagement with the club's loyal supporters.
Launched in August 2018, it became the most downloaded football club app across the next 12 months. Its innovative Match Centre was added in February 2019, contextualising Opta’s vast wealth of live performance data and animating it in an exciting, insightful and digestible way.
Whether you are watching United's latest game on TV or following it online, the Match Centre gives you a unique 'second-screen' experience, enabling you to see which players are having the biggest influence on the pitch and which team has the momentum at any given moment.
A promotional campaign for the Match Centre, 'A new way to follow the game', was nominated for The Drum's 2019 Content Awards in the Travel, Leisure or Sport Marketing category and came out on top, ahead of contenders including Chelsea - coincidentally on the same night the Reds knocked the Blues out of the Carabao Cup.
The Drum success was followed by a double triumph at the 2019 UK Business Awards. There, the Official App Match Centre received the gold award for Innovation of the Year - Platform / Project, while the launch of the App and relaunch of ManUtd.com collected the silver award for Business Change or Transformation - Programme.
