How social media is reacting to United 5 Lyon 4
Manchester United's 5-4 win over Lyon has been talk of the timeline across social media platforms since Thursday's final whistle, as players, reporters, staff and supporters attempt to put into words what was a quite unbelievable night at Old Trafford.
United entered the final 20 minutes with a two-goal lead on the night and on aggregate, and looked to be on the way to securing a comfortable passage to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals, before a spirited Lyon comeback sparked an ending of epic proportions in M16.
Our French visitors scored twice to level the quarter-final tie and, with a man less following Corentin Tolisso's 89th-minute red card, netted two more in extra-time to leave Ruben Amorim's Reds staring down the barrel of a sudden exit.
An unimaginable turnaround was needed to swing things back in our favour but three goals in seven glorious minutes followed, first Bruno Fernandes from the penalty spot, then a cool curling finish from Kobbie Mainoo before an added-time winner off the forehead of Harry Maguire that sparked utter euphoria.
In fitting with a 'tifo' banner that carried the message 'never gonna stop', United never stopped believing... and the result? A magical Theatre of Dreams conclusion that everybody is talking about.
