United shows supports for Rainbow Laces campaign
Manchester United staff, players and fans will join forces during the next two Premier League matchdays to highlight the club’s total support for Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign and celebrate LGBTQ+ inclusion in football.
The club today launches its ‘One Love’ campaign which underlines support for the LGBTQ+ community by showcasing ways we can all contribute to making football a more inclusive environment.
The ‘One Love’ campaign content will demonstrate United's unity and allyship with LGBTQ+ groups – especially those affiliated to the club such as the Rainbow Devils.
During the Premier League matches against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow (Saturday), and West Ham’s visit to Old Trafford next Sunday, both sets of team captains will wear rainbow armbands to highlight the Premier League’s longstanding commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ inclusion.
The same will be done in our Barclays Women's Super League and Continental Tyres League Cup fixtures in that time period. United face Leicester City (Sunday), Durham (Wednesday, cup) and Everton (a week on Sunday) all away from home, and at those games, the Rainbow Laces message will be visible around the stadium.
Also, on show against West Ham next Sunday will be the ever present LGBTQ+ supporters’ club, Rainbow Devils, banner which has been providing a highly visible symbol of support for our LGBTQ+ fans around the world since becoming a permanent feature at Old Trafford in 2021.
Collette Roche, Chief Operating Officer at Manchester United, said: “We are extremely proud of our fantastic fan groups and the diverse nature of our support.
“Throughout the world our fans are recognised for the love they show for the team and the club, and, as always, over the next two Premier League matchdays we know our fans will take responsibility and be a visible ally to help make football an inclusive environment for all.”
In addition to the ‘One Love’ campaign, Manchester United and adidas today launch the ‘Love Unites Collection’ which has been inspired by the Stonewall Activists of the Stonewall Uprising in 1969.
Together adidas and Kris Andrew Small offer a collection in solidarity & celebration of the LGBTQ+ community's past & present, honouring unique belonging – creating a colourful & diverse graphic message among this inclusive & optimistic collection.
The collection is available now via the Official Manchester United store.
