Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrives at the Etihad Stadium.

United side announced for derby semi-final

Wednesday 29 January 2020 18:45

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has selected his side for the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

In our latest cup test, Solskjaer has made four changes to the side that overcame Tranmere Rovers in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round on Sunday, as the Reds look to overturn a 3-1 deficit against City. The game kicks off at 19:45 GMT and you can follow it in our live match centre.

In goal, David De Gea comes in for Sergio Romero, while there are two changes in defence with Aaron Wan-Bissaka replacing Diogo Dalot and Brandon Williams coming in for Phil Jones. Fred starts in place of Andreas Pereira in midfield and Andreas joins Romero, Dalot and Jones on the bench.

United agree deal to sign Bruno Fernandes

The Reds have reached agreement with Sporting Lisbon.

It looks like United will again go with three at the back with Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw all starting. Nemanja Matic has recovered from the knock which forced him off at the break at Prenton Park, while Jesse Lingard and Mason Greenwood will support Anthony Martial in attack, as they did in Sunday's 6-0 FA Cup victory.

Speaking to Sky Sports before the game, Ole had this to say about the state of play in the tie: "We need to score at least two more goals than them. We’ve done it before last year and we need to match that performance from about five or six weeks ago when we came here and won. PSG away is also a good memory for these boys to look back and think about. We know we need to have a proper performance, with and without the ball.

"We’ll have to throw more energy at it and we need to be better on the ball, we need to have more courage. The last time we countered and should have scored four or five, but I don’t think it’ll be that type of game. They’re two up and they’ll probably be happy to keep the ball. We need to go out and score goals."

Away goals do not count tonight and, if the scores are level after 90 minutes, the game will go straight to penalties. Aston Villa await the victors in the final at Wembley on 1 March, after the West Midlanders defeated Leicester City 3-2 on aggregate in the other semi-final.
