United side to take on City confirmed

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has selected his side to face City in the derby at Old Trafford.

The Reds face Pep Guardiola's Blues in the 12:30 BST kick-off in our final match before the last international break of the year.

Ole is without Raphael Varane and Edinson Cavani for the big game but Victor Lindelof is available after missing the Atalanta tie in the Champions League in midweek.

There are three changes in total from the European clash in Bergamo, including Fred, who replaces the suspended Paul Pogba in midfield.

Marcus Rashford starts on the bench, with Mason Greenwood introduced after an impressive contribution as a substitute in Italy, while Lindelof is in for Varane after proving his fitness in time to play.

Luke Shaw makes his 200th appearances, in all competitions, for the club.

“I always felt Victor was going to make it, I'm very pleased to have him back,” the boss told MUTV.

Solskjaer revealed that striker Rashford returned from Bergamo with a problem but a late fitness check this morning has confirmed our No 10 is able to take his place on the bench. Greenwood lines up in his place.

“Everyone knows what Mason can do. He can score goals. He can get on the ball for us. It is a good chance for him. He has played against Man City so many times in his life anyway and he is looking forward to it," Ole told Sky.

And a derby victory is crucial, especially after the 5-0 loss to Liverpool in the Reds' last Old Trafford outing.

“Definitely, you have to use it as motivation and learning. We can’t make those mistakes again," said the boss.

"I like the attitude, I like the focus this morning and I think they all know, we all know, that we are up for a difficult game and we are ready for it.

“It is a local derby, we know what it takes and we know what it means for everyone. We know what it means for the table. If you get three points, you are equal with them . If they get them, we are too far behind to be happy.”
