United's team to face Everton

Saturday 09 March 2024 11:30

Erik ten Hag has selected his Manchester United side to take on Everton at Old Trafford.

The 12:30 GMT kick-off presents an opportunity for the Reds to not only bounce back from successive Premier League defeats but apply some pressure to Aston Villa and Tottenham, who meet on Sunday at 13:00 GMT.

Ten Hag admitted in Friday's press conference that Harry Maguire and Ramus Hojlund were still unavailable but Jonny Evans and Marcus Rashford would be fit to make the squad, and both start.

The Reds are unchanged from the derby defeat to Manchester City but there could be a lot of fluidity going forward. Skipper Bruno Fernandes looks set to play as a striker.

When asked by TNT Sports if it was a different test to last weekend, with a need to be more proactive, Erik replied: "Good question, it's true. We need movement in behind. How do we get it? It has come from our striker, Bruno. So he has to make moves in behind. Also Bruno, as a striker, will drop to find space and pass. So we need movement in behind from others. We pay some attention during the week to get that in and it has to work out."

With Omari Forson injured, Dermot Mee is on the bench for the first time in the league as a second-reserve goalkeeper, alongside Altay Bayindir.
