Manchester United concluded the 2022/23 campaign with qualification back into the Champions League, having finished third in the Premier League table.

On the way to our impressive position, there were some truly remarkable fixtures.

22 August 2022

Ten Hag's side came into the third match of the season, against our bitter rivals, needing a win, following back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Brentford.

Despite the pressure, there was something truly special about Old Trafford that evening. Bouncing from start to finish, our supporters revelled in a superb performance from every single one of our players.

It also felt very much like this match was the moment summer signing Lisandro Martinez endeared himself to the United fans with his tough tackling and infectious passion.

Jadon Sancho's first-half opener and Marcus Rashford's second-half finish were too much for the Merseysiders to come back from, despite Mohamed Salah's late goal, giving Erik his first win as boss.

Ten Hag's team began to find its stride and followed up the triumph over Liverpool with a big victory over Arsenal in our next home match, stopping a side who had up until that point been faultless in the Premier League.

After Gabriel Martinelli's early finish was ruled out for a foul in the build-up, new signing Antony put the Reds ahead. On his debut, the Brazilian was found by Rashford and rolled the ball home, following an excellent team move where every player touched the ball.

Bukayo Saka drew the Gunners level, but Rashford's second-half brace put the three points firmly in the hands of United, making it four wins in a row for Ten Hag's side in the process.

Arguably the first match of the campaign in which United completely dominated from start to finish, our win over Spurs in October was a game where people sat up and paid attention to what Ten Hag was building at United.

On another memorable evening at Old Trafford, Fred broke the deadlock shortly after half-time before Bruno Fernandes added a second as full-time came into view.

From defence to attack, the Reds pulled in the same direction and fought for one another relentlessly, prompting a strong response from the crowd. Our fans and players synergised perfectly, and it was an incredibly powerful moment for United's season.

A win in the derby was always going to make this list, but the manner of the victory meant it was an immediate shoo-in.

The cagey affair exploded into life in the second half, with the Reds going behind to a Jack Grealish goal on the hour. Fernandes drew us level - in controversial circumstances - 18 minutes later, leaving the match on a knife-edge.

Substitute Alejandro Garnacho then made a difference off the bench, twisting and turning down the left before his low cross found the feet of Rashford, who made no mistake.

Pandemonium ensued at the Theatre of Dreams, as Erik's side showed amazing mental resilience to come back from behind against City and earn a well-deserved three points.

The final match in our top five is the one which saw the Reds clinch Champions League football for next season.

In our penultimate league fixture of the season, United only needed a point against the Blues to seal a return to Europe's elite competition and ended the night with all three.

Casemiro set the Reds on the way to victory from close range, before Anthony Martial doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time. Bruno then won and scored a penalty, before Rashford made it four.

Joao Felix grabbed a late consolation, but the result was already sealed, as Ten Hag achieved one of the key targets he set when he arrived at the club last summer.
