Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay, Luke Shaw

Vote for United's Player of the Month

Monday 29 April 2019 17:00

April has been a testing time for the team but we still have a shortlist of three individuals for our Manchester United Player of the Month award.

The Reds have played seven times in the last four weeks, including a couple of challenging Champions League quarter-final games against Barcelona. There was the 2-1 victory over West Ham United, courtesy of two Paul Pogba penalties, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men have otherwise found wins hard to come by as the campaign winds to a close.

Nonetheless, the trio nominated on this occasion are Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw.

You can vote for April's star man now or firstly read our summaries of how the trip performed in the penultimate month of 2018/19...

Victor Lindelof has been nominated for our award five times this season.

VICTOR LINDELOF - 6 appearances / 0 goals

The Swedish defender has managed to retain his composure at the back and battled on throughout a sticky period for the Reds. He operated at right-back at Barcelona and Everton, away from his more familiar role at the heart of the defence, and attempted to get in tackles and keep possession. Undoubtedly one of the campaign's success stories as a whole, he made five of our 12 clearances in the Manchester derby and all eight of his passes in the opposition half during the draw with Chelsea found their intended target. Lindelof has won our award once - last November - and been nominated five times this term.

SCOTT McTOMINAY - 3 (2) appearances / 1 goal

A real bright spot of late, the Academy graduate worked his socks off against Barcelona in the first leg at Old Trafford and was probably our most effective performer on the night. This was on the back of a maiden Premier League goal, struck sweetly past Rui Patricio to give us the lead at Wolves, even if the home side turned things around at Molineux. It has been frustrating that injury has affected his availability, as he missed the defeat to Manchester City and started on the bench on Sunday. However, he did add some much-needed energy in the closing stages of the draw with Chelsea and is beginning to look more and more like he is capable of holding down a regular starting place. It is only the second time Scott has been on our monthly shortlist after he was also nominated in February 2018.

LUKE SHAW - 4 appearances / 0 goals

The left-back was forced to sit out three games in April due to suspension but still did enough to warrant inclusion on our shortlist. He set up Juan Mata's goal against Chelsea and made four clearances, more than any of his team-mates, in the 1-1 draw. He was very unlucky to have an own goal against his name in the home reverse to Barcelona, when Luis Suarez's header bounced in off him. Shaw is aiming for a fourth triumph in the monthly voting this season after he won the award in August, September and March.
