Wednesday Briefing: Don't miss this key detail

Wednesday 04 November 2020 08:00

We know you're busy, but don’t forget that Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League Group H match against Istanbul Basaksehir kicks off at the earlier time of 17:55 GMT on Wednesday evening.

It is our turn to have an early and slightly unusual start after the wins over Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig began at the regular time of 20:00, so make sure you don’t miss the action at Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium.

Supporters in the UK can watch the match live on BT Sport, or you can follow our live updates on ManUtd.com and in the Official App. Furthermore, MUTV will also provide live build-up, radio commentary and exclusive reaction during the matchday show that starts from 16:50 GMT.

With six points already on the board, this match provides an excellent opportunity to cement our position as leaders of Group H and edge ever closer towards qualification to the knockout stages - potentially with games to spare.

“We’ve started very well with the first two games and two great results,” explains Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has taken a 24-man travelling squad to Turkey. “Now we’ve got a chance to get three points against a difficult side. They’ve performed well both against Paris and Leipzig, so we know it’s going to be a difficult match.

“We know we have a chance of winning if we play to our best; we hope to get those four to six points that we need to quality. Now it’s about getting those three points.”

The impressive victories over PSG and RB Leipzig have fuelled a belief that his squad can enjoy a successful run in this season’s Champions League, but Solskjaer is not getting carried away and states his young team must develop a greater level of consistency going forward.

United’s up-and-down form was, of course, highlighted by the brilliant 5-0 success over Leipzig being followed by a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, which the manager is all too aware of. Yet he remains positive and is encouraged by an excellent start in Europe this campaign.

“You know, results can sway the whole picture so many times. Sometimes, there are fine margins in games and we’ve had some good games where we’ve not got the results that we deserved. These two [v PSG and Leipzig] show the quality that we have. But we’re not going to get too far ahead of ourselves here. We look forward to the next game. We will keep working to get that consistency because us at our best level, we can beat anyone. That’s how we need to go into every game.”
