United Women discover potential FA Cup opponents

Tuesday 13 December 2022 10:35

Manchester United Women will face a trip to either Blackburn Rovers or Sunderland in the fourth round of the 2022/23 Women's FA Cup.

The tie will be played on the weekend of 28/29 January 2023 and we'll discover whether we'll play in the north-west or the north-east in due course, after Sunday's clash between the two Women's Championship sides was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

As a member of the WSL, Marc Skinner's side received a bye to this stage of the competition, along with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Holders Chelsea have been handed a tricky home draw against fellow top-flight side Liverpool, while the Gunners and City also have home ties, although they too are waiting on replays to discover their eventual opponent.

United beat third-tier Bridgwater United 2-0 at this stage of last season's tournament, before being eliminated by Manchester City in the fifth round.

Our best showing in the Women's FA Cup since the team was reintroduced in 2018 came during our debut campaign.

The Reds beat Brighton & Hove Albion and London Bees to reach the quarter-final, where we fell to an extra-time defeat at Reading.

Skinner's side will be eager to go at least one round further this term, especially after a disappointing Continental Cup campaign.

The Reds were eliminated from that tournament with a game to spare last week, as a 4-2 win over Everton was unable to reverse the damage done by penalty shootout defeats at Aston Villa and Durham.
