Williams relishing time at United Women

Manchester United Women forward Rachel Williams says that despite picking up a pre-season injury, she’s settled in well following her summer move to the Reds.

The striker, who had previously been at Tottenham Hotspur, had to wait a little longer than expected to make her United debut, after picking up a problem in training before the start of the new term.

But Williams got her chance to pull on the red shirt for the first time during our recent WSL win over Brighton, and featured again at the weekend, as Marc Skinner’s side made it four league wins on the spin with a victory at Leicester.

“I’ve settled in really well,” she said, speaking to club media ahead of Wednesday night's Conti Cup tie at Durham, which you can watch live on MUTV.

Summer signing Rachel Williams talks settling in, injury rehab, her first United Women games and Wednesday's cup tie...

“I’ve had to kind of catch up because I’ve had a knock in training that set me back four weeks but I’m really enjoying it.

“I’ve had to work hard in rehab to get back on the pitch and I’m just enjoying all the time I’m getting at the minute of minutes coming on.”
The injury was an early-season frustration for the 34-year-old, who would no doubt have been keen to make an instant impact for the Reds.

“I felt like I’d finished strong last year and went into pre-season feeling fit and ready to go but that’s just the player I am, it’s all or nothing," she said. "Me and one of the players clashed a bit and these things happen.

“So, for me, it was just next focus is four weeks, we made a plan with the medics, we knew the date [was] Brighton that I would be back and then it was kind of like that was the start of my season going forward.

“That’s football, it can be a little bit annoying, but you’ve just got to get on with it.”

This evening's Continental Cup tie will be shown live on MUTV, ManUtd.com and the United App.

Now that she’s back on the pitch, Rachel is targeting more minutes and wants to contribute to the success of United Women this season.

Our no.28 could potentially make her first start for the Reds during Wednesday evening’s League Cup tie at Durham, with Marc Skinner already hinting at potential for rotation in the team, with the trip to the north east being our second game of three in an eight-day window.

“That’s the whole point of having such a big squad," she said of the congested fixture list. "It gives the staff rotation if they want to, change things, look at things.

“As players, you’ve just got to be ready. You could be called upon; you might go from one week getting no minutes to however many on Wednesday night.

“We’re in a good place, everyone is mentally and physically, and on Wednesday, we’ll deliver again.”

You can watch United Women’s trip to Durham (19:00 BST) live in the United App, on ManUtd.com and MUTV tonight, with build-up starting 15 minutes before the first kick.
