Williams: We’ll keep working hard

Monday 13 March 2023 16:33

Manchester United Women forward Rachel Williams says the Reds won’t be knocked off course by Sunday’s defeat at Chelsea and believes that the team is on the road to something special.

United were at the summit of the WSL going into the weekend’s top-two clash at Kingsmeadow, a game that was won 1-0 by the home side, which was enough to see them leapfrog us in the standings.

It’s only a second loss of the league season for Marc Skinner’s side – the other also coming to the Blues – meaning Williams and co therefore have plenty of reasons to remain optimistic when looking ahead.

The Reds remain in the mix at the top end of the league table despite yesterday’s defeat, and now turn attentions to a Vitality Women’s FA Cup quarter-final this weekend, away to Lewes.

Rachel Williams is remaining optimistic after United Women's narrow defeat to Chelsea on Sunday...

“I’m sure there’s about seven or eight [league] games to go and it’s swinging, it can swing all kind of ways, you’ve seen it already this year,” the forward told MUTV after the final whistle on Sunday.

“We’ll just keep the pressure on the top, we’ll keep working hard, and we can’t ask any more of that.

“We’ve still got the FA Cup run as well. I love the FA Cup as well, so hopefully we’ll win that game and get into a semi-final.

“We’re on the road to doing something brilliant here.”
Rachel has also sent a message to our amazing supporters after another strong following on the road at Kingsmeadow.

The forward had full appreciation for the United faithful’s vocal backing of the team once again yesterday and has urged our fans to keep bringing the energy in support of the team, as the important weeks at the business end of the season continue to come.

“They’re absolutely brilliant our fans, absolutely massive credit [to them] and thank you to every single one of them that follows us up and down the country, [and comes to] home games, supporting us," she continued.

“Keep bringing it, we’ll keep putting on performances for you.

“We’ll still be at the top, chasing for the league, that’s one of our aims this year. Thank you to all the fans and everyone supporting us, we really appreciate it.”
