Mary Earps has made the final three-player shortlist for The Best FIFA Women's Goalkeeper of the Year 2022 award after a memorable season for club and country.

United’s no.27 becomes the first English shot-stopper to make the top three of any globally recognised award since David Seaman in 1996.

Earps was critical to England’s European Championship win last summer, conceding just two goals in the entire tournament on home soil.

She is joined by Lyon and Chile’s Christiane Endler and Chelsea and Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger on the list, with the winner set to be announced at the end of February.
Earps' clean sheet against Reading was her 50th in the Women's Super League.
In a recent interview with club media, Earps talked of her initial place on the longlist for the award.

“I’m still a bit blown away that happened. I’m so honoured to be on a list with such incredible goalkeepers,” she said.

“Just really privileged, really thankful to be on that list, and grateful for an incredible 18 months.

“I want to keep going, keep improving as a player and putting my best foot forward for United and for England, and winning as many trophies as I possibly can.”

Earps has kept nine clean sheets in our 12 Women’s Super League games so far this season, pulling off some sensational saves along the way.

Our 1-0 win over Reading last month saw her clinch 50 shut-outs in the WSL, making her the first goalkeeper to achieve such a feat in the competition.

Mary's recent performances helped her win our inaugural women’s Player of the Month award, too.

She continued: “I never really thought I was going to get back to this height of success or playing at this elite level again.

“So, the last 18 months have been a bit mental really, winning the Euros and going on the campaign we’re going on now in the league with United, it just makes you hungrier for success.”

“Every time I cross the white line, I want to put in great performances.

“That’s all I’m trying to do really, so to be named on that list is incredibly humbling but I want to just keep pushing myself to reach my full potential.”

Congratulations on reaching the final three, Mary, and good luck!
