Earps named The Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year 2023
Manchester United Women goalkeeper Mary Earps has been named The Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year for 2023.
For both the Reds and England's Lionesses, Earps has had a lasting impact over the course of the last 12 months, playing a key role as United Women finished second in the Women's Super League and reached the final of the Women's FA Cup for the first time in our history.
What's more, Mary became the first goalkeeper to rack up 50 WSL clean sheets.
After Earps's impressive campaign as part of Marc Skinner's team, which saw her and the United defence keep a record 14 WSL shutouts over the course of the season, she jetted off to Australia and New Zealand for the 2023 Women's World Cup.
There, like in Manchester, Mary's contribution was crucial to helping Sarina Wiegman's team reach the final, where they were narrowly defeated by Spain.
Earps did save a penalty in that match, adding yet another memorable moment to her reel for the Lionesses.
Such has been Mary's importance, the United goalkeeper has deservedly been named as The Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year.
It was only in February that Earps was given FIFA's The Best Women's Goalkeeper award for 2022 and, now in November 2023, she has added yet another achievement to her tally.
Well done, Mary!
