United draw Southampton in Women's FA Cup

Monday 15 January 2024 19:43

Manchester United will play away to Southampton in the fifth round proper of the Adobe Women's FA Cup.

The tie against the Championship club is set to take place on the south coast over the weekend of 10 and 11 February 2024.

Our fixture was the penultimate game to come out of the hat during the draw, conducted live on BBC Radio 5Live's 'Monday Night Club' show, hosted by Mark Chapman.

Former United Women defender Abbie McManus - a two-time winner of the competition - drew the teams out alongside ex-Manchester City, Newcastle and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given.

Marc Skinner's Reds secured our place in the fifth round proper on Sunday with a 5-0 victory over third-tier outfit Newcastle.

Ella Toone, Nikita Parris (twice), Rachel Williams and Melvine Malard were all on the scoresheet as we kicked off 2024 - and our FA Cup campaign - with a resounding win.

United are hoping to go one better and lift the trophy for the first time this season, with a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in May's Wembley final seeing us finish as runners-up last time out.

February's fifth-round fixture will be our inaugural meeting with Southampton, who have reached this stage of the Cup following triumphs away to Portsmouth and, most recently, Sunderland.

The Saints are currently fifth place in the second tier of English women's football, with 21 points from 12 league matches so far this term.

Further details regarding the tie will be announced in due course.
