Reds react after Lionesses' triumph

Monday 01 August 2022 09:20

Following England's historic Euro 2022 final win over Germany at Wembley on Sunday, the Manchester United Women players involved in the triumph shared photos of the celebrations on social media.

Mary Earps, Alessia Russo and Ella Toone all starred in the victory, having already made key contributions throughout this summer's tournament.

As with the rest of the competition, Earps was composed in the final, producing some important saves and laying strong foundations on which her team-mates could build.

Russo and Toone were both introduced as substitutes in the second half, and the latter scored an incredible chip to open the scoring, before Chloe Kelly's extra-time strike sealed the historic 2-1 win for Sarina Wiegman's side.

After the celebrations had died down, our Reds trio shared images on their Instagram accounts.

Earps and Russo posed together, while Toone - flaunting her England bucket hat - was all smiles after becoming part of women's footballing history.

The trio weren't the only Reds revelling in the win on social media, and both Hannah Blundell and Aoife Mannion were among those who used Twitter to share their thoughts throughout the landmark fixture.

When Russo and Toone joined the fray in the second half, Mannion posted on Twitter, stating: "And just like that, Lessi and Tooney step out onto the pitch. Wow, come on girls!!!!! Run them ragged!!!!"

At full-time, the United Women defender posted: "IT CAME HOME."

Blundell shared these sentiments, sharing a message of her own. She said: "FOOTBALL HAS FINALLY COME HOME!!!"

Earps, Russo and Toone have no doubt had a huge impact on future generations of footballers with their success on Sunday, and they can be very proud of what they have achieved. Well done Reds!
