19 young Reds out on international duty

Some 19 Manchester United youngsters, who have represented the Under-23s and Under-18s this season, have been called up to international duty – at six different under-age levels.

Many of the youth products will be busy accruing valuable experience with their countries before domestic action returns with the Premier League 2 fixture against West Brom at Old Trafford on 5 April, with free entry for all, and the Academy clash with Sunderland the following day. 

Matthew Olosunde, has been selected to play for USA Under-23s as they prepare for the next Olympics. The defender will be at a training camp in Spain with matches against Egypt and the Netherlands on the horizon.

At Under-21 level, Lee O’Connor has been called up by Republic of Ireland after winning the Under-19 Player of the Year for his country. The defender has already trained with the senior squad, when Martin O’Neill was in charge, and is taking on Luxembourg.

Northern Ireland have handed Ethan Galbraith his first inclusion in the same age group, as the midfielder continues to rise through the ranks with his homeland. Goalkeepers Dean Henderson, who is shining for Sheffield United on loan as they push for promotion, and Alex Fojticek have been named in England and Slovakia’s Under-21 squads respectively.

Tahith Chong, who has been involved with United’s senior side under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is again with the Netherlands Under-21s. Regan Poole, currently on loan at Newport County, is with Wales in the same age group.

Centre-back Luca Ercolani looks set to feature for Italy’s Under-20s in matches against Czech Republic and Switzerland.

Four players who were involved in the UEFA Youth League game at Midtjylland have been called up at the same age group as the European competition – the Under-19s. Matej Kovar (Czech Republic), Angel Gomes (England), Dylan Levitt (Wales) and Nishan Burkart (Switzerland) will all look to impress, with the first two in direct combat on Wednesday at St George's Park.

England won 4-1, with Gomes assisting two of the goals, while Kovar saved a penalty in the first half from Ian Carlo Poveda. 

Ethan Laird has returned to fitness and is away with England Under-18s.

Ethan Laird and James Garner are in the England Under-18 squad as they tackle Japan, Czech Republic and Mexico. Tricky forward Largie Ramazani will head to Dubai with Belgium Under-18s.

Defenders Teden Mengi (England) and Lukasz Bejger (Poland) and midfielder Charlie McCann (Republic of Ireland), who scored twice at Newcastle at the weekend for Neil Ryan’s side, will all be away from the Aon Training Complex on Under-17 duty.
