Fixtures arranged for United youngsters

Monday 09 September 2019 15:40

Manchester United will field an Under-19 team against Hertha Berlin's second-string side in a friendly on Wednesday 18 September.

The youngsters will tackle German opposition at Altrincham's J. Davidson Stadium in a 19:00 BST kick-off, with Nicky Butt in charge.

It is the latest part of a games programme being organised by the Academy to ensure the youth players gain valuable experience against continental opposition, following the success of a summer tournament, staged at the AJ Bell Stadium, for the Under-18s.

"Everyone is really looking forward to the game against Hertha BSC II," said Head of Academy Nick Cox. "It is another fixture we believe will be hugely beneficial for the development of our Academy players.

"We are always looking to provide the best experience for our players; the recent games in Northern Ireland for our Under-23s, participation in the EFL Trophy and the inagugural AJ Bell Trophy tournament are great examples of the Academy's innovative games programme.

"This season we have enhanced the programme in order to increase the variety of experiences that the players are exposed to and best replicate first-team football, this will provide an excellent platform for development."

Earlier in the day, at noon, United's Under-21 Ladies will face Ipswich Town Ladies at the same venue, again with free entry.

Fans are being urged to use the turnstiles next to the Sponsors' Lounge, where there are full bar and catering facilities.
