Manchester United extends deepest condolences to everyone connected with Flamengo FC, following today's tragedy at the great Brazilian team's training ground.
The awful news that people have lost their lives in a fire at Ninho de Urubu has been met with great sadness at Old Trafford and the Aon Training Complex, where a number of staff have fond memories of being hosted by Flamengo 19 years ago.
Sir Alex Ferguson's Treble-winning squad stayed in Rio de Janiero for the FIFA Club World Championship in January 2000 and used Fla-Barra, Flamengo's training ground at the time, as a preparation base during the tournament. The staff there were warmly welcoming, supportive and helpful to all their visitors from Manchester.
