Manchester United’s Under-19s will take on Liverpool away in the UEFA Youth League round of 16, and could face Manchester City in the quarter-finals, after the draw was made on Friday.

The one-off game on Merseyside will be played on Wednesday 21 February at Tranmere Rovers' Prenton Park stadium, with kick-off at 15:00 GMT, and has been selected for live television coverage in the UK.

The winners will go on to visit the victors between Manchester City and Inter Milan in the last-eight stage, on 13 or 14 March.

The trip to Liverpool comes after Nicky Butt’s side passed a stiff test in Belgrade on Wednesday night, beating Serbian champions Brodarac 2-0 thanks to an Indy Boonen strike and an own goal by Mihajlo Ivancevic.

The young Reds had to navigate that play-off match after finishing as runners-up behind group winners Basel, albeit only on goal difference.

Just four games away from the final in Nyon on 23 April, Butt’s team face a tough assignment against Liverpool but will hope to reach the quarter-finals of the prestigious competition, which is in its fifth season and is for all under-age players from the 32 senior clubs that qualified for the UEFA Champions League.
