Skinner wins January WSL prize
Manchester United Women’s head coach Marc Skinner has been named the WSL’s Manager of the Month for January.
It’s back-to-back triumphs in the category for our head coach, who previously claimed December’s accolade, following another perfect month in the competition for his United side.
The Reds overcame his former club Birmingham City 5-0 in the first of our two league fixtures in the calendar year’s opening month, before we beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 just over a week later to further strengthen our Champions League credentials.
It also means another double-award-winning month in the WSL for the team, off the back of Skinner and Ella Toone’s December success, after Leah Galton picked up the Player of the Month award for January earlier today.
“It feels amazing,” Skinner told us.
“When we won the first one last month, it was amazing, but I have to credit the staff, the players - you can’t win this unless it’s for them and with them.
“More importantly, our energy is from the fans. As a collective, we all take this award and it can be a cliché when you just talk about it being everyone, but it really is everyone.
“I just take a percentage of this, and everyone should share in it.”
“I think what it shows is a credit to the players and the growth that we’ve had. It’s never easy to keep clean sheets in this league and we know that,” Marc explains.
“But it’s something we focus on as a group and the players have shown their absolute quality and commitment to everything we’re doing.
Skinner: Everyone should share in this
Marc underlines the role players, staff and the fans had in his latest WSL Manager of the Month win...
“We spoke before Christmas about taking our form from December into January and we absolutely did that. Now, what we have to do is make sure we take that into these games coming up as well.”
Congratulations on another award-winning month, Marc!
