Skinner's team news for Liverpool test

Thursday 25 May 2023 14:02

Marc Skinner has provided a fresh team news update ahead of Manchester United’s away trip to Liverpool on Saturday, for our final game of the season.

After suffering a minor knee injury in training, Aoife Mannion will unfortunately miss our trip to Merseyside.

“Aoife blocked a shot in training and took a small tweak to her MCL [medial collateral ligament],” Marc said in his pre-match press conference.

“[There is] nothing structurally wrong, so she is back with the team. She won’t be [available for] the weekend, but we’re hoping after a few weeks, she will be back.”

There is hope that Aoife will make a full recovery ahead of this summer’s 2023 World Cup, as the centre-back is in contention to represent the Republic of Ireland during the month-long tournament.

Mannion joins Maria Thorisdottir on the sidelines, with the latter having already been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after sustaining an injury in our FA Cup quarter-final game away to Lewes.

As we draw the curtains on a memorable season, Marc has encouraged his ‘exceptional’ Reds to enjoy our last outing this term.

Whatever happens in the title race as leaders Chelsea head to Reading, United will finish above both Arsenal and Manchester City in the WSL for the very first time.

“We’ve been exceptional this year, we really have, and I don’t think we get enough credit,” he said.

Everything you need to know as the Reds make one final push for the WSL title.

“Our players have been exceptional this season, our staff have been exceptional this season. We’re still in contention to win [the league] but if we don’t we still finish second.

“To disrupt the historical top three, that is a big, big season regardless of what has happened elsewhere, so I want people to give this team and players the credit they deserve.”

United Women will travel to Tranmere Rovers' Prenton Park ground for Saturday's 14:30 BST kick-off against Liverpool. Live radio commentary will be available on ManUtd.com, MUTV and the United App.
