Help Rashford achieve a career-first

Marcus Rashford’s belter in the Manchester derby has been nominated by the Premier League for their March Goal of the Month award.

Rashford rattled home his sixth career strike against our city rivals in the early stages of the encounter at the Etihad Stadium at the beginning of the month.

Andre Onana had played a precise lofted pass to Bruno Fernandes, who was calm and patient while waiting to tee up our no.10.

With one touch, Marcus unleashed a ferocious effort, which pinged into the net via the crossbar, to leave Ederson with no chance and the red corner of the ground delighted.

We could watch Marcus Rashford’s stunning effort at the Etihad Stadium over and over again…

Unfortunately, United could not hang on to the lead, as the Blues took control in the second half and ran out 3-1 winners.

But even that disappointing scoreline could not disguise the brilliance of Marcus’s missile and Rashford’s 82nd goal in the division – he’s since added an 83rd, from the spot against Everton – could provide him with a career-first.

While the 26-year-old has claimed four Player of the Month prizes during his eight-year senior career, he is yet to appear on the Premier League’s list of Goal of the Month winners.

Since the award was introduced in 2016, United’s players have won more than any other club, with nine accolades, including three this season, for Bruno Fernandes (September), Alejandro Garnacho (November) and Kobbie Mainoo (February).

No club has ever had more than a trio of winners in the same campaign, with West Ham also managing three in 2020/21. To make history Marcus will have to attract more votes than some similarly impressive efforts, with the following goals all being nominated too:

  • Yoane Wissa (Brentford v Chelsea)
  • Phil Foden (City v United, 1st goal)
  • Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace v Luton)
  • David Datro Fofana (Burnley v West Ham)
  • Jacob Murphy (Newcastle v Chelsea)
  • Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth v Luton)
  • Rodrigo Muniz (Fulham v Sheffield United)
