What does Rashford need to improve on most?

Marcus Rashford has identified heading as one area of the game which he wants to improve in the months and years ahead.

The United forward is leading the charge for Erik ten Hag’s Reds in 2022/23, with the eight goals he has scored so far double that of any other team-mate.

But in a new interview with Danny Webber, Marcus says he needs to produce more from aerial situations, despite netting a magnificent header – his 100th United goal – in October’s win over West Ham.

“I still think I can get a lot more goals from headers,” explained Rashford.

“I just feel like if I gamble more, I just feel like I'll score more headers.

“Under Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer], he moved me inside left a little bit, so I was making these [heading] positions a bit easier. When I was a bit closer inside and not playing as a no.9, I could work in a partnership.”
Seven of Rashford's 101 United goals have come from his head, with his right foot producing 83 and his left supplying the remaining 11.

The forward's 99th goal, scored against Sheriff Tiraspol three days before the match against David Moyes's Hammers, was another header.

Meanwhile, in the Carabao Cup tie against Aston Villa last Thursday, an aerial ball he flicked on to Christian Eriksen led to his most recent goal in Red.

Rashford is working to improve his productivity from headers – but he's already bagged two this season...

Earlier in the season, after that memorable 100th club goal, Rashford admitted he'd been working hard on this side of his game.

“It's a nice feeling when you connect like that with the ball in the air,” he said.

“I always feel like I need to be scoring more goals in those situations, because I feel like when I get in the areas, I have good attributes to be scoring them types of goals.

“It's something I've been working on recently so I'm looking to keep doing that, keep getting in the areas and trying to get on the end of crosses.”
