The skilful Spaniard ran onto a pass by Anthony Martial and cleverly dinked his cool finish over the advancing John Ruddy to break the deadlock over the two ties.
One goal proved sufficient to set up a date with either Tranmere Rovers or Watford on Sunday 26 January.
