Scott McTominay on the ball against Everton at Old Trafford

Everton v United: Your essential info

Saturday 29 February 2020 09:00

Manchester United go in search of a third consecutive Premier League victory on Sunday, when travelling west to Merseyside for a meeting with Everton.

David De Gea, Harry Maguire and co will be aiming for a fourth successive clean sheet in the league, to complement the goalless draw with Wolves prior to the recent winter break and two impressive wins against Chelsea and Watford.

It's a big afternoon for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is "100 per cent sure" his developing team will produce a better performance than the one seen on our most recent visit to Goodison Park in April 2019, when we were soundly beaten 4-0. The sides last met in December, at Old Trafford, where an expert Mason Greenwood finish secured United a point, cancelling out a Victor Lindelof own goal.

Everton themselves are enjoying an upturn in form since the arrival of legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti, though they were narrow 3-2 losers to Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side at the Emirates Stadium last Sunday.

RIVALS WATCH

United have the opportunity to open up a decent lead over several top-four rivals this weekend, with Arsenal and Sheffield United's matches being postponed, due to their respective opponents Manchester City and Aston Villa meeting in Sunday's Carabao Cup final at Wembley. Also, dropped points for Tottenham and / or Wolves is guaranteed when they face each other this weekend. Chelsea, the current possessors of that coveted fourth spot, travel to relegation candidates Bournemouth. That contest that could have significant ramifications at both ends of the Premier League table, especially after bottom side Norwich City pulled off a shock 1-0 win over third-placed Leicester City on Friday night. Elsewhere, league leaders Liverpool travel to Watford in Saturday's late kick-off.
