Match Preview: United Women v Bristol City

Friday 03 January 2020 20:25

Manchester United Women return to action this weekend, as the Reds welcome Bristol City to Leigh Sports Village.

It has been just over three weeks since Casey Stoney's dispatched Birmingham City 3-1 in the Continental Tyres Cup, and now our attention switches back to the Women's Super League, as we come up against the Robins for the first time.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Sunday's fixture, including how you can watch it live on MUTV...

HOW CAN I WATCH IT?

Sunday's game at Leigh Sports Village will be shown live on MUTV, with coverage getting under way at 11:30 GMT and kick-off at 12:00 GMT. As usual, we’ll be providing updates on our official Twitter account @ManUtdWomen and, after the game, a full match report will be published on ManUtd.com and in our Official App. If you can’t watch the game live, MUTV will be showing the full 90 minutes again at 18:00 GMT. Video highlights will also be available on the website.

FORM GUIDE

Leigh Sports Village is becoming a fortress for Stoney's side since clinching promotion to the top flight. United have won each of our last four WSL home games, and a victory on Sunday against Bristol City will see us become the first ever newly-promoted side to win five successive home matches in the competition.

As for the visitors, Tanya Oxtoby's side are currently rooted to the bottom of the table, with no wins, three draws and six defeats from their first nine matches of the campaign. The Robins' record against newly-promoted opposition isn't much to sing about either - they have lost three out of five, including a defeat against Tottenham earlier in the season.

KEY PLAYERS

Lauren James has scored four goals in United Women's last three league fixtures, which has brought her tally to seven in all competitions, and the 18-year-old will certainly be one to watch again.

Ebony Salmon is no stranger to United fans, having spent last season with the Reds as well as a loan spell at Sheffield United, and the young forward is currently Bristol City's top scorer this term, with five strikes in all competitions. Salmon was on the scoresheet in the Robins' final game before Christmas, a 5-2 victory over Charlton Athletic.
