TEAM NEWS

Marc Skinner has no fresh injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s meeting with City, with a similar squad expected to be available to the one that was for last weekend’s 2-0 victory at Birmingham. Speaking during his pre-match media duties this week, our head coach provided updates on injured pair Kirsty Smith and Martha Thomas who he says will remain sidelined for this fixture, as will Millie Turner who is continuing her recovery from a knee issue sustained earlier this season.

FORM GUIDE

The Reds responded to defeat against Chelsea on home soil, nearly a fortnight ago, with victory at Birmingham City to climb up to fourth in the table last weekend. Prior to the September international break that preceded those two matches, United had won both of our opening league games of the campaign, versus Reading and Leicester City, meaning we can make it four wins from five matches in this season’s WSL, on Saturday. As for the visitors, they have had an uncharacteristically rocky start to the campaign, having lost on each of their last three outings in the competition, against West Ham, Arsenal and Tottenham. They were victorious however, during the midst of that run in the resumed FA Cup. The holders put six past Leicester City at the Academy Stadium in late September to ease their way into the competition's last four.

United Women's history in the Manchester derby

It's been only two years since we first met with City, but there have been six action-filled games in that time...

HEAD-TO-HEAD

As mentioned earlier, the Reds will be targeting a first derby-day win in the league when the sides meet this Saturday. We have beaten City twice over recent years, both in the Continental Cup, while three of our four other duels have come in the league, with the Blues claiming the spoils twice, either side of a high-scoring draw in last season’s instalment of this fixture. We have also faced Gareth Taylor’s side once in the FA Cup, back in 2019/20, with the weekend’s visitors edging an action-packed fourth-round contest 3-2, at Leigh Sports Village.
