"I love challenges and that's why I am here."

A simple response that tells you everything you need to know about Manchester United Women striker Melvine Malard, who arrived at the club at the end of the summer transfer window.

A four-time UEFA Women's Champions League winner, Malard joined on loan from French giants Lyon and it's safe to say she knows a lot about being in a successful team.

Having bolstered Marc Skinner's squad ahead of the 2023/24 season, our first in Europe's premium competition, Melvine says she moved to England to test herself and develop further as a player.

"I thought it was a great opportunity to gain experience in a new environment and discover a new club, new football and new players," said the France international in her exclusive signing interview with club media.

"I love English football, which is one of the best ever. There is so much to discover and learn here.

"So yeah, a new challenge, a new club and I believe I am ready for that."

The signing of the 23-year-old forward was confirmed in the same influx of talent last week that also saw World Cup-winner Irene Guerrero and American goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce join Skinner's squad.

United also brought in 2023 World Cup Golden Boot-winner Hinata Miyazawa and Brazil attacker Geyse this summer, as last season's Barclay's Women's Super League runners-up prepare for the new campaign.

Following the international break, the Reds kick off the new season with a trip to Aston Villa on Sunday 1 October (12:30 BST).
