Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and players in training.

Solskjaer: We should be ready for pre-season

Sunday 12 May 2019 05:00

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he expects his Manchester United players to be fit and ready when they return to training on 1 July.

Speaking ahead of our final Premier League match of 2018/19 against Cardiff City, the Norwegian discussed plans for next season as well as for our pre-season tour.

To kick-off Tour 2019, the Reds head to Australia to take on Perth Glory on Saturday 13 July before facing Leeds United four days later, on Wednesday 17 July.

“We're not going to use the first 10 days to build them [the players] up - they should be ready to go,” stated Solskjaer. “Whoever's not ready will probably stay here and not travel. We only want and need players we can use over there.”
The players will be eager to impress during pre-season ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur will be our next two opponents, at the National Stadium in Singapore and the Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai on Saturday 20 July and Thursday 25 July respectively. We then return to the United Kingdom to play AC Milan at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff, on Saturday 3 August.

With attention turning to next season, Solskjaer is looking to make the most of the break and is keen the players do the same, as he used to when he was a player.

“The last two weeks before I came to pre-season, that was my time to try to get fit so I could impress the gaffer when I started,” reflected the boss.

“They've all got their individual programmes. They're all different. Some need strength, some need cardiovascular stuff. We've got a longer summer break than any of the other challengers and we need to use that as an advantage.”

Premier League fixtures will be announced on Thursday 13 June.
