Solskjaer's team news for Palace trip

Tuesday 02 March 2021 13:00

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided the latest team news ahead of Manchester United's Premier League contest at Crystal Palace, including an update on Edinson Cavani's availability.

The Reds face Roy Hodgson's Eagles in a 20:15 GMT kick-off on Wednesday, looking to extend our unbeaten 20-game away run in the league.

The match was rearranged due to our progress to the quarter-finals of the Emirates FA Cup, with the tie against Leicester City taking place on 21 March.

Cavani has been out since the draw at West Brom last month but has returned to training and it is hoped he could be fit in time for the Selhurst Park clash.

"Edi has trained this morning and hopefully there is no reaction," Ole revealed to club media. "There are another couple of knocks that we have to look at, from after the [Chelsea] game, and from the season's wear and tear.

“It looks good. Edi has got the desire and hunger and, of course, he wants to join in, even if it’s from the bench. Hopefully he’ll say tomorrow that there’s been no reaction."

Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Phil Jones are all still sidelined but it appears as though there are a couple of other doubts for the Reds.

Jones has been out all season but has been registered for the Premier League following the closure of the winter transfer window.

At his press conference, Solskjaer said: "With Phil, obviously we hope [we see him in 2020/21]. He's working really hard. He’s had a couple of setbacks. It's just that kind of injury where you have to be patient and give him time. I know all about knee injuries. I'm not sure. How long is a piece of rope? That's how I felt as well when I came back. [We’ll] give him absolutely every chance to get back this season. If not, hopefully for the start of next.

“Paul is still not ready for us, no. He's feeling better. He's not been training with the team yet, so he’s definitely not travelling down to London, no.”

NEWS FROM PALACE'S CAMP

Eagles chief Hodgson provided a positive bulletin on his squad plans with former Red Wilfried Zaha battling to return from a thigh problem, even though Wednesday looks set to come too soon for him.

"It's quite good news, really," said the Palace boss. "Wilf's returned to training, albeit a bit modified. He looks ready to go again, we'll have to wait for the green light, but it's looking positive. We will be able to welcome him back very, very soon.

“Also, I'm very pleased that Jeffrey Schlupp and Connor Wickham have recovered and will be available for me. It's good news on the offensive front, we're looking much more like we should be.”

However, there are other injury concerns for the south Londoners to contend with, including James Tomkins, who has had a successful operation on a worrying eye issue. Nathaniel Clyne, Tyrick Mitchell, James McArthur and Nathan Ferguson are out.
